The little things.

I think people are born with gifts. Not to say that natural talent just pours from gifted hands with a first breath. Rather I think it’s intentionally somewhere deep within our souls, waiting to be unwrapped and nurtured.   There are hints.  Little clues along the way, in our paths through life- whether or not we choose to see them. But you can always tell when someone has found their gift, because it is so often shared with such joy and selflessness. And it always comes with a truly genuine smile. The kind that makes your eyes sparkle.

Today I came home with arms full of bakery ingredients, juggling too much for one trip, thinking about the long list of to-dos, and feeling the end of a long, long day.  As I walked up to the porch of the little bakery building, my eyes caught an arrangement of soft, beautiful spring colors amidst piles of construction boards. Stunning white blooms with deep purple centers, soft apricots and yellows of early daffodils, speckles of tiny, variegated lavender happiness, and the bright green of new leaves on branches eagerly reaching for the first days of spring sun.  It was a vase of happiness, in the loveliest composition. The kind of gift that is unmistakenly arranged by the hands of Saltese Farms.   Along with card wishing a happy first day of spring.  We often call these small, unexpected moments the little things. But really, given their ability to turn a long day’s frown into a glimmering smile, they’re anything but little. They’re gifts, nurtured by genuinely wonderful people and shared from joy, which makes them everything.

I love when people find the little gifts within them, and make the world a better place.  Thank you, Hannah, for inspiring fresh spring breaths and bringing a sparkle of goodness to our eyes.
