Good things.
Did you know we’ve made well over 250 different breads and pastries in the last two years at 1871? I didn’t -not that I’ve had much time to stop and count. This afternoon I was sitting in my comfy menu planning chair with a tall glass of tea, something I often call Sunday, pouring over ideas for this week, when I decided to sort through old favorites we haven’t run in a while. The wonderful things that slip through the cracks and sadly, too often, end up forgotten with an always changing menu. Although I’m the furthest thing from technology loving, being forced to adopt a POS system has given me this kind of rare insight and moments of bafflement.
I was well on my way to a menu that excited the baker in me when Mr. Amazing walked in and pulled something, well, typical Mr. Amazing. Early in our relationship, we found a symbiosis. The crazy pairing of my endless motivations, whims, and grand plans with his enduring ability to build whatever we dream of. However there have been more than a few moments of non-symbiotic toil. Almost always because my excited heart doesn’t understand real world timelines. A couple of years ago, in a torturous-to-me decision, Mr. Amazing stopped giving me anticipated due dates. In his brilliance he believed, if he didn’t give me a date, he would never miss it. I don’t know if it really benefitted our marriage (or my sanity) but it does make for happy little surprises, like today.
This week’s menu full of savory sourdough, fluffy milk breads, buttery croissants and seasonally sweet fruit is going to have to wait another week to rise in the heat of our ovens. But it’s so very worth it. It turns out we have a very busy week ahead, preparing for the opening of our tiniest new adventure.
On Friday, August 8th we are very excited to welcome you through the doors of The Curated Pantry at 1871. We will be filling its beautiful shelves with our- always- fresh baked bread and pastries, plus an ever-growing pantry of curated goodness for your home cooking and baking endeavors. All the great things we can craft and curate to bring you the very best.
The best part? More days, more hours, more goodness.
Now its time for this non-techy person to figure out how to make pre-ordering for The Curated Pantry available on the POS system.
See you soon!
